Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
We helped design and donated the landscaping for the project. Congratulations Akers Family!

As you can see the home needed some work. But the biggest issue was the bi-level interior floor plan. A plan was necessary for an all accessible home to give the Akers family independence and freedom they deserve.

Before tearing down the house the design team and contractors rally and march down the street to kick off the project. The most touching speech came from Beth, Brook’s teacher during the ceremony. As Ty was filming on his mini-cam, Beth said she went into teaching to change the lives of children, but didn't expect children like Brook to change her life. It was incredible. And now time to demo the house!

The house is actually torn down, rebuilt, furnished and landscaped in five days. Contractors worked around the clock to make it happen. The site looked like a mini athletic field at night all lit up keeping the progress moving. Hats off to Dallis Designer Homes who orchestrated all the construction.

The Lichtenberg Team arrives. With plan in hand we started the landscaping at 5:00pm Monday evening and finished by Midnight. Our crew was instrumental in completing the job by giving instructions and keeping all the helping hands moving in the right direction. A big thanks to our talented crew, family and friends who volunteered to make this all happen, it was a job well done.

Wow, isn't it amazing what you can do in just a few days? The front yard has a wide open lawn with a large maple tree in the center. We designed the sidewalk from the porch to the drive to open up and run down along the drive allowing smoother access to the home. Along the foundation we added lots of color and lush evergreen plantings.

One special memory was when I met one of the designers at Lichtenberg Gardens. We were excited to show her the plants for the project. While there we saw butterflies fluttering over some shrubs. I told her that those are butterfly bushes and they attract butterflies. She mentioned Faith’s room is a butterfly theme and thought that was pretty cool. I suggested planting a butterfly garden outside the window. So we changed the plan and did just that, pretty cool indeed.

We are very exited about the backyard; the design plan was to create a little resort style living for the family to enjoy. The landscape design offers a tranquil place to get away to and relax. Complete with swimming pool, water feature, lounges and pergola we hope the family can really enjoy themselves here and let the kids be kids.

The big reveal. The excitement and anticipation was in the air when the Akers arrived. When the limo pulled away it was awesome to see this family feel overwhelmed with gratitude. The way the community came together and supported this cause was just amazing. There is a lot of goodwill in people’s hearts and it showed when it came to the Akers family. It was exciting to meet the challenge and a honor to help make a dream come true for a such a deserving family.
